St. Tiernan’s College ladies footballers are entered in the Connaught D Competition. The girls have performed very well in recent years and can be extremely proud of themselves.
After reaching the Connaught Semi Final last year for the first time in the team’s history, the ladies were keen to being training at the start of the school year. Aisling Moyles was voted in by the team as captain for the year, and has already proved herself to be a positive influence on the team.
Our first outing this year was against Scoil Damhnait, Achill on the 30 September. The match was played in Achill and the girls put on a great display of football to beat the Achill ladies. This game was followed by a home game against Coláiste Chomáin, Rossport on the 9 October. This proved to be a very entertaining game for both sides. St. Tiernan’s ladies started strongly and controlled the game from the off, resulting in a comprehensive victory.
In November, the girls again travelled to Achill to play McHale College. There, they displayed some fine footballing skills and it became apparent that the new first year players were an asset to the team. The whole team showed a huge amount of determination and teamwork and won the game convincingly.
Our final game at home in St. Tiernan’s Park was against the Castlebar side of Davitt College. This game proved to be the toughest encounter for the St. Tiernan girls. Both teams were evenly matched so an excellent performance from both sides was guaranteed. Half-time came with only 3 points keeping St. Tiernan’s College in the lead. A 2 half injury of the influential defender, Sarah Timlin, proved to be an unfortunate turning point for our ladies. Despite trying their best to hold the lead, Davitt College pulled ahead to win the game.
Davitt College topped the Division with the St. Tiernan ladies runners up. Both teams qualified to the Connaght Quarter Finals.
Following a by in the Connaght Quarter Finals, the ladies now await the fixtures for the Connaght Semi Finals in the coming weeks.
