Career Guidance

There is a comprehensive Career Guidance Information Programme available to each Student at St. Tiernan’s College. This includes both timetabled Career Guidance and Individual Counselling. The Career Guidance Service facilitates students to make informed decisions relating to career and further studies. Guidance encompasses three separate, but interlinked, areas:

  • Personal and social development
  • Educational guidance and
  • Career guidance


We provide students with clear information regarding subject choice, with opportunities to explore their interests and how these link to further education, training and career areas. We use a range of IT resources which play an important part in helping students make more informed choices. Educational and Vocational training opportunities are provided by using on line facilities such as www.qualifax.ie, www.careersportal.ie and www.careerdirections.ie. Fetac links system www.cao.ie. All students can use the online facilities when applying to the CAO.


HEAR

HEAR stands for The Higher Education Access Route. This system facilitates under represented groups from schools linked to any one of the third level access programmes of the following Higher Institutions (HEIs)
To apply for access places in these institutions.

  • Dublin City University (DCU)
  • Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT)
  • NUI Maynooth (NUIM)
  • NUI Galway (NUIG)
  • Trinity College Dublin (TCD)
  • University College Cork (UCC)
  • University College Dublin (UCD)
  • University College Limerick (UL)


There are many advantages available to successful applicants including entrance to courses at reduced points and continued support throughout their college careers.
