Tiernan’s Concert goes to Plan

The participants in the music programme at St Tiernan’s College recently organised a very successful fundraising concert in the school on behalf of Plan Ireland

The project which is part of the after – school programme held in the school has proved to be most popular over the past few years. The musicans organised a concert featuring a number of seasonal favourites and current chart favourites under the tutelage of their music teacher Mr. Dennis Mc Calmont. The concert, co-ordinated by Mr. Colm Hendry featured stellar vocal performances from the Padden sisters, Natasha, Chloe and Hayley and a rendition of a popular philipino song by Olive Trinidad as she gave the audience of parents, guests, teachers and students a flavour of her homeland.

Other highlights included songs from Shane Ruane, Eoghan Gibbons, Lauren Gaughan and Anne Callaghan to the accompaniment of the wonderful band featuring Neil Keaveney on the electric lead guitar, Eoghan Gibbons on bass, Tamar Mc Kinley and Aaron Lenihan drums and a group of percussionists and guitar players led by Dennis Mc Calmont.

The newly-developed assembly area in the school proved an ideal venue and the wonderful sets created by the art department provided a suitable ambience whereby all present engaged in a wonderful afternoon’s entertainment. The group were delighted with the reception they received from a very impressed audience and at the fact that the money raised will allow them to sponsor a child for a year in a developing country through Plan Ireland.
