St. Tiernans V St. Patricks College, Lacken Cross
03/03/10
Lacken travelled to Crossmolina on Wednesday to take on an unbeaten Tiernans side. Early signs suggested that the Lacken boys would be a stern test as they netted three times in the first ten minutes.
On a good day for football, the pitch was heavy which required every ounce of fitness from both sides. Lacken showed some class with pacey forwards and some neat passing. The first half ended with Tiernans up by a point but were rattled by the high number of goals. The Tiernans mid- field dominated with Stephen Rochford and Cathall Boland calling the shots. Well placed passes to the half forwards of Nigel Caden and Mark Timlin and Barry Mc Loughlin ensured a smooth flowing attack form the Cross boys. This lead to many scores with Barry Mc Loughlin and Nigel Caden topping the list. Mark Carroll was introduced and had an immediate impact hitting the net with a fierce shot. The first half ended with Tiernans up by a point.
The second half brought a few changes and with Mark Carroll marking the Lacken No. 6 tight restricted the Lackens man play making ability. Conor Colman made some great blocks and created numerous attacks, even tacking on a point. Corner back Kevin Murphy even ventured up the field to put one over the bar. Tiernans netted 3 times in the second half which gave a much needed boost. Big scores from Stephen Rochford and Jordan Connor ensured the victory. Final score in St. Tiernans Park Crossmolina:
St. Tiernans College 6-13 St. Patricks Lacken Cross 5-4
