In September 2002, St. Tiernan’s College successfully started the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme, the aim of which is to prepare the participating students for apprenticeships and employment in the areas of electrical, motor mechanical, plumbing, building, carpentry, computers and many other types of employment.
Pupils will also develop communication and decision-making skills to achieve a more independent approach to learning and life.

This programme has three main elements: -

(1)Vocational Preparation

  • Vocational Preparation and Guidance and Communications
  • English and Communications

Vocational Education

  • Mathematical Applications
  • Vocational Specialisms:

A) Graphics and Construction
B) Engineering - including motor technology
C) Office Administration and Customer Care
D) Hotel Catering and Tourisms

(3)
General Education

  • Social Education
  • Languages including Irish, French and German
  • Art Education
  • Information Technology
  • Leisure and Recreation
  • Elective: Technology

With the commencement of this programme the school has acquired some excellent extra facilities, including new sand blasting equipment and a guillotine for the engineering room.
